I have a 2001 PT Cruiser Limited, original owner, with now 191,000 miles on the clock. The car has always been maintained by the dealer and with no issues.
An oil leak was recently observed, and the dealer applied the dye to confirm the leak. Today it was diagnosed the rear main oil seal is slowly leaking and needs to be replaced, along with the oil pump and seal. The total amount of the repair will be around $ 1,600.00. The repair is well worth it since the PT is in mint condition, and always well cared for... As I have not read of many rear oil seal leaks - - any help or assistance is appreciated. It is a four speed automatic. Thank you. ![]() |

Thank you to all who posted information with regard to Main Seal and Oil Pump.
Had the service all completed by Dealer - - and now all is a lot smoother and there is no more slight "jump" in the transmission when shifted from Park. The oil pump was changed as a matter of preventive maintenance - being all was already taken apart. All was not bad - had a 15% off coupon from the dealer (that has no expiration date and of which I have used in the past and will continue to use when needed) and was provided a loaner car no charge. PT now has 192,000 miles. Do not mind preventive maintenance - as I have been doing it all along when needed. Have an excellent dealer and service team. Am waiting to see the 2013 Dodge Dart at the New York Auto Show - - am going to keep the PT and order a Dart Limited, from the same dealer. When the Dart is unleashed, it will sell for over MSRP, however, will be able to order it for well under MSRP. If you have not seen it yet, check out the Dart on the web at Dodge.Com...it is hot!! Especially the Charger look of the rear taillights! ![]() |
