Default Automatic Transmission

I just received my Haynes Repair manual PT Crusier 2001-2010, copyright 2011. Under Maintenance Schedule for 30,000 miles and every 30,000 miles it says change automatic transmission fluid and filter. Isn't that an overkill?

I think it's overkill - unless you are in stop-n-go traffic all the time.
I had mine flushed at 50,000 and again at 100,000 miles.

I'd follow the owner's manual, unless these guys say otherwise.

I'm sorry but changing the trans filter every 6000 is the equivalent of changing the oil filter every 100 miles. I do like the drain plug idea. But treat it like a pistol. Don't pull it till you need to. I'd go with UptounSport on this one!

If so, my apologies. In that case put the filter in chump change compared to the cost of fluid.
Again my apologies. Thought he meant every other oil change.

the trans fluidl pan w/drain plug is like $18 at Rockauto. Advance Auto sells ATF4 fluid that is on the AllPar recommended list to be equivalent to MOPAR ATF4 but less expensive
