Default Check engine light

Hi I have a question about the check engine light. I have a 2009 PT Cruiser non turbo and the check engine came on today. I've had this problem 2 months ago the light came on and not long after that it started jolting backing i don't know what you would call it, took it to auto zone and the cam sensor needed to be replaced so i replaced it and everything was fine. Hadn't had a problem til today the light came on and my dad and i took it to auto zone to get a code and there was no code. I drove it all day today and it was fine it drove like normal. My question is if there is no code and it drove fine then what could it be?

If there was no code (and you can get the code yourself without Autozone) then you might have had a temporary fault that didn't produce the fault code.

By the way. I wouldn't be surprised if your camshaft sensor fails in a short while. After market sensors don't last very long if they work at all. All your sensor should be replaced by a MOPAR/Chrysler part. Other after market sensor are made with inferior parts.

Next time the engine light comes on, follow these instruction on how to pull the code yourself.

How to retrieve fault codes.

Since the cam sensor went out once i read that it could be the timing belt but when i called a mechanic he said its unusual because my mileage is so low. My manual said to replace it at 96,000 i m at 58,000. I just worry if its anything super serious because i do not have the money to cover it

You used a autozone cam sensor.

Go buy a real one from Mopar. Seriously, I dont know how many times it has been stated here, use mopar sensors or take your chances with intermitant problems.

I got a code its 0456 so its either a vacuum leak or a loose or defective gas cap, a cracked hose or something all can be repalced easy i believe

I have a 2009 PT Cruiser and the check engine light came on again ( this is the fifth time in approximately 4 years). the Car just went past the 100,000 miles mark and of course the extended warranty has just expired. I tried to retrieve the code and the only thing that came up was 'Done" so no code to work with. Should I just take it to my local guy or should I bring it in to a Chrysler dealer. If I do that I am certain that the cost would be in the 250 to 300 dollar range. Any Suggestions?

Ill say one thing the check engine light on any of my other cars ( not Chrysler of course have not come on like this.) Sorry to say but this is my first and last Chrysler.

Well if you buy the real deal you won't have to replace it again and again and you won't face much problem. Just go and get mopar.
