Default another fog light question

Has anyone added fog lights in the stock location, but didn't use the OEM wiring to hook 'em up?

I'm considering adding fogs to my '07 Touring, but don't want the hassle of the MFS or the reflash from the dealership. I've got pretty good electrical knowledge, so I'm reasonable certain that I can rig up a relay and a switch, along with the associated wiring.

I've considered just getting a set of "axillary driving lights" from my local auto parts store, but they all seem to be cheaply made, and I have been unable to find a suitable mounting location that won't involve hours of modification, cutting, or drilling.

Just curious

yes I did. I found many responses, but none that truly answered my question.

My first step when trying to find new info is always the search feature, then I move on to trolling through threads, THEN I post a new topic, especially if I don't find pertinent info

It seems like Sanatanadharma had some pretty good information on adding the fogs with a separate switch.

We don't have a thread in the HOW TO section on adding fogs on PT's that didn't have the OEM lights because nobody has done a write-up.

If you do end up adding them, a write-up and pictures would be great.

Also, gotta add, that I saw your picture of LED's on the door and it seems like with your talent, it wouldn't be hard to add the fogs to the PT.

As you and Crewzin both implied, you have a fair amount of 12 volt auto knowledge. You have a "CAN bus" system and hacking into it would not be the way to go. Just use a simple switch and relay to take the load off of the switch when activated. Your fogs would be an entirely separate system. If I were you I wouldn't even think about using anything other that OEM lights. They almost fall into place, so no cutting, hacking, etc, etc. Most PT owners use the area just below the radio to mount their switches as I did with my nitrous (now Snow water/meth) switch.

As Crewzin said, if there isn't a good, comprehensive write-up anywhere here yet, please do one. We could all use a good shot of knowledge, especially me.

When I installed mine, I used the factory system (I'm not CAN bus) and it was easy.

OK. I'll figure something out. I haven't actually decided which way to go, though I'm leaning towards something that will fit in the OEM location.

I like the looks of these ~$94 on eBay with free shipping

but these look pretty good too ~$72 on eBay including shipping

Both types of complete kits, lights, mounting hardware, wiring harness, switch and relay.

If I go through with this mod, I'll be sure to do a write up on what I did, and what others shouldn't do, etc.
