Default Ultimate Compound and Wax Results (lots of pics)

I'm on Spring Break at the moment so I thought I'd tackle the paint on the Cruiser today and see if I could bring back some of it's glory. Please note, the main purpose of today's measures was to polish and wax in a limited period of time so I did not clean crevices, wheel wells, wheels, lower bumper areas (splash guards), etc. This is something the girlfriend is able to handle on her own so I left it to her to do on her own time.

On to the fun part...

What I used:
-El Cheapo Random Orbital Buffer (Motor Trend 6" Orbital Polisher)
-6-6" Terry Bonnets
-5 Drying Microfiber cloths
-Meguair's Ultimate Compound Link
-Eagle One Wax Spray (Not my top choice but it's what I had laying around) Link

Here is what I started with (these pictures were taken after the car wash):

Finished Product (I would have liked to polish for a little longer and go over some areas but my arms were getting tired and I ran out of time):

Before/After Door Trim comparison:

These ARE cell phone pics so they don't really do justice for how hazy the paint was to begin with and how clear it became. But I have to say, for the cost, effort, and ease to use, the Ultimate Compound really worked pretty well. I didn't use a rotary polisher or one that had speed settings (mine is more of a wax applicator if anything) and I don't know much about detailing or polishing at all but this stuff seemed to work pretty well at removing oxidation. This product even worked pretty well on the door pillars (which seem to get oxidated on a lot of these cruisers.

On the contrary, the spray wax did not work well. I don't know if I used it incorrectly or what but it left a slight haze to the car which took a lot of effort to rub off. The car looked a lot better before I applied the wax.

If you have any questions on what I did or whatever ask away and comments (or criticisms) are welcome.

Nice job!

Ultimate Compound is some great stuff!
I would recommend getting some Meguiars wax to go with it, I really like the NXT2.0
Also check out the Meguiars forum, tons of great info and tips.

Nice! If you're ever in Missouri, stop by - bring your buffer.

That's where I kinda put together what product to use and how to use it. I really wanted to use the NXT but this isn't my car so I just went with whatever I had laying around. The owner and I are both broke college students in search of jobs at the moment but I've been meaning to do this for a while so I went at it.

Haha, well its a pretty easy job (at least the route I took was) and it only had an upfront cost of about $40-50. Buffer is reusable/resellable.

Tempting. I'll let you know when gas comes back down to $1.00/gal

Yea, I contemplated this but didn't want to spend the extra $15-20 and labor right this time. Maybe when I get some spare time this summer.

I took a lot of shortcuts because I "care for/look after" a total of about 5 cars (parents/myself/gf) that don't really get much aesthetic attention unless I do it, so time is always limited for these projects. My poor car hasn't been waxed in quite some time.
