Default What is this adapter under my dashboard?

Just got a PT Cruiser. It's a 2005 2.4L Turbo convertible with 100,000 miles. I noticed this under the dashboard. It looks like it has 2 wires coming out of the back, a red and blue one. It looks like something custom from the way it's mounted, but i guess some one may have just moved it from it's original location and put different screws in it.

Anybody seen this before?

Will the car start when that is removed? My dad had something like that under the dash
of his Chrysler and it was a (stop theft) unit...When that was removed the car would not
start...PTpreacher

I don't know. I've only removed it when the vehicle was off. I will try it later. Just wondering if this was something that was in others?

That is something aftermarket. I would also guess like posted above that it is some sort of antitheft device.

If so, that's pretty cool. I wouldn't mind having one of those.

So I followed the 2 wires and they go along the steering column into the ignition wiring area. (I also found out that the plastic panel underneath the steering wheel pops off easily, which is really convenient).

The vehicle still started with the adapter removed, and I didn't notice anything different while it was removed, so I'm not really sure what it does. If I do find out, I will be sure to post it here.

i'm thinking that something else plugs into it and that thing that's in there now is just like a cover. you might want to ask the guys over at ptcrew.com to see what they say about it.

Could it be an bypass module for an autostarter?

If I had one of those, I wouldn't have insurance for long!
