Default Got Pics of the new arrival!

Brought her home yesterday, actually drove it after a jump.

Been doin' some diagnostic questions with fellow Motorheads at work and doin' a little diagnostics myself.

So far the "hole in piston" theory is pretty much a wash. the motor runs too good, it just has a dead miss, probably #3 I am assuming (hottest part of engine). I have not pulled the intake but #1 and #4 plugs look fine.

I was told if the piston had a hole, it would hardy, if at all, run. And we both agreed, you cant make steam with no fire, and she was steaming a bit.

The seller told me his Mechanic scoped it and saw a hole in piston. this is the same mechanic that did the original head work. I have to use the term mechanic loosly, reason being while I was driving it home about 10 or so miles, I was watching the temp gauge slowly creep up. It did take quite a while to get there. When the gauge finally told me to shut it down, I did. Of course while I was waiting to let it cool off, I noticed that the fan was not running.

Yup the good old PT broke fan syndrome. Probably the only thing wrong with it in the first place. The "mechanic" told the seller the the overflow is gurgling because the head is sucking in air, so it needs the head and gasket done. .... can you say "bend over and take it like a man". Too bad too , he is a very nice guy.

So next for me is a compression check and probably yanking the head to do the now goofed up head gasket. I am hoping the head is not warped, but we'll see.

I have some Pics of the new arrival, of course after a quick clean up. Moocho detailing will come at a later date.

Black is always sweet!

Pistons (on N/A's) don't get holes burnt in 'em too often

That is a nice looking ride.

Hopefully the repairs are not to bad.

Pulled out the plugs, and number 3 has antifreeze on it. Which from what I hear is the first point of damage (hottest point on head).

Just looking in the spark plug hole, the top of the piston is nice and clean (steam cleaned I take it), so that is also a sign of a non damaged piston Looks like the head gasket is the culprit

I am up to the PITA part, removing the timing cover, and belt. So far it seems I can remove the head bolts without removing the cams though. On the Neon I had to take the cams out first (DOHC).

The strange intake setup is actually nicer to work on, came off nice and easy. The exhaust is another story, It does not have the old spring setup like older Mopar 4's in the past. At least it is nut and bolt. I plan on leaving the exhaust manifold on when the head comes off, just disconnect the flange.

More fun for tomorrow.....dinner time!!!

Nice PT. My first suggestion would be to polish out those headlights. They look like mine did before I polished them.

Nice looking PT, the fan most likely broke and it got hot enough to warp the head. Doesn't sound like he was much of a mechanic.

Good luck with her, shes a looker
