Default Ran Out Of Fuel, Oddly.. Now Check Engine Light...

Hello All,
I hope everyone is well. 06' GT 47,000 miles. Driving the car with low fuel light on. Though, needle was nowhere near as low as it's been before I've refueled. Car wouldn't start, symptoms of being out of gas. Put fuel in and car started. But........... now the check engine light is on. I have driven the car three miles to gas station and back. Anyone have an idea what the light will reveal? Could the light go off/reset after a certain amount of miles driven? Thanks for any and all help. I really appreciate it.

Do the "key dance" you can find out how to do it in the "tech" section of the forums, there also, you can also look up the codes of what what the numbers mean. Always remember, the search option is always your friend!

You'll be very lucky if the fuel pump didn't burn out. The pump is cooled and lubricated by the gas in the tank. New fuel pumps are about $300 without the labor to drop the tank and replace it.

The only way to know what the engine light will reveal is to find out for yourself. Use the below link to get the code and come back here and let us know.

How to retrieve fault codes.

Do the key dance and look up the code. It's all at the top of the tech section.

Thanks all. A few miles down the road and the light is gone. It has reset or cleared or whatever the technical term is. Thanks to those of you kind and "non-jerky" enough to respond without emoticons rolling there eyes and turning red and dumb s%$# like that. I appreciate it.

GTCruiser,

There was nothing "jerky" about any of the answers given to you even if emotions were added. First, if you really think about it, what you did (run completely out of gas) was worth an emotion and second, asking a question of what the MIL light would reveal is like asking to look into a crystal ball. You've been around long enough to know about the "Key" dance to retrieve the codes yourself.

MIL = Malfunction Indicator Light
