Default Engine/Trans swap

Read lots of discouraging info on engine swaps from later (06 and up) engines into 01 model PTs. Was wondering if anyone had swapped engine AND transmissions (automatic). If so, would this eliminate some of the problems if the wiring harness and computer were swapped as well...

You're talking about a daunting task-
Entire powertrain PLUS engine/front harness-
It would seem to be easier/cheaper just to get an '01-02 engine

(Or not wreck it in the first place)

Actually, the car is real special to my wife and she loves it! The engine went with 189K on it and I don't want to go to all the trouble/expense of putting in a high mileage 01/02 engine. Thought a later model engine/tranny swap would solve it all...

Not sure how well the 06+ motor and trans would work even with pcm swap as the newer pt are canbus, and the older pt are not.

Not too sure about comparability, just know canbus was the major change between the 2 generations.

Wink Re: Engine/Trans swap

the work you would have to put into this "modification" would not worth the trouble imho. going to CAN bus alone would be daunting.

Try googleing rebuilt PT engines or something to that effect. If you're somewhat mechanically enclined you could just get a rebuilt 01 or 02 long block or short block (depending on your abilities) from someone like "Jasper" or one of the other well known rebuilders and go from there. They do come with a warrenty. This is taking for granted that your tranny is ok and that you don't personally want to teardown and rebuild your existing engine yourself. This way you have an 01 or 02, freshly rebuilt engine that you know will work in your car.

Just a thought.

Jerry

On second thought, go for it!
Should be able to get everything from a wrecked one!
