Replacing the windshield on a 03 Cruiser

Is windshield something best left to the pros or is it something I could accomplish at home with a wooden dowel, some string, butyl tape, and Vaseline?

They don't go in that way any more. They use urethane. This is an encapsulated windshield, moulding made onto the glass. Getting the old one out is the hard part. If you have to buy a new one, just have them do it? I have a used one I have to remove and install in my dream. Getting it out without damage will be the challenge!

The current windshield in the PT is already broken, so removing it without breaking it isn't an issue. I can get a new windshield for $140. Should I just have someone else install it?

If you have Comprehensive Coverage insurance on your PT, that should cover it and you can have a Pro come to your house. Don't think you even have to pay any deductible and it's not charged against you like an accident.

My insurance won't cover it. Believe me, if I could have this done for free, I would.

What is the install price?

Free if I do it, which is why I am asking. I can get a used windshield for $90, so if I can install it myself I can get a replacement windshield for $90 total.

dont know where you live, but i called auto glass place and they sent a mexican to my work and he installed it in an hour. i payed $120 installed

Things have changed. You'll need a spatula, an old flip-flip, 2 pennies and a potato.

DIY! Hardest part might be putting the new glass in unless you have a helper! Maybe Rob342 can loan you his Mexican. If so, add tacos to the list.
