Default Hit N Miss ?

Ok, yesterday was the first of this problem for me...
Been driving around alot the past few days, stopped to get gas, went to start the PT and nothing? hit the key a few times and she fired up. Stopped a few more places and she fired up normally. Went to pick up my son and again, turned the key and nothing? Hit ir a few more times and she fired up. Same with a few stops at the store??? So, whats going on with this darn thing? Its just every here and there it does it and I hate it, thinking Im going to be stranded somewhere.... Any ideas on what to check/look at? Thanks.

I am a bit confused.

You said you hit the key? Does that mean you used a remote start key button?

Not sure because then you said you turned the key, is it a starter issue or a power issue.

I am clueless

Did you try another key?

Maybe this one is kinda related to your issue, ignition switch starting problems

So what did you hit the key with?

?

?

?

?

Depending on what you hit it with, I suspect a bad ignition assembly. You could try pulling it and cleaning it and scuffing up the contacts.

I'm thinking the ignition switch is starting to blow it. If your key is a security key, it would start up for at least a couple of minutes before shutting down (so I have heard).

But if you don't even hear a "click" when you try to start the motor, I'd suspect the ignition switch.

You forgot to include a pic of my wife's fist.... I once watched her raise the fridge with her left arm, and pound a spider into oblivion with her right.

You know the term...Unless youre a yung-un, Hit it !
Basically I turn it gently with my thumb and forefinger, then with a little more force on the second and third stroke...lol
No clicks at the starter, then I might get a tick or two, then it turns over fine and starts?

Sometimes a small hammer works, if not I hit it twice as hard, if that doesnt fix it, I get a bigger hammer....if all else fails I get the BFH !!!!

Yes it is a sentry key.

Car did fine today, no issues at all, took a trip to illinois and back as well, racked up almost 300 miles on a tank

Do you have another sentry key? I'm wondering if the one you have is somehow losing its mojo--if such a thing is possible.

Still, I think you have an ignition-switch problem.

Got it fixed, You'll never guess in 100 years what it was.
I thought it was the key, nope tried the other.
Thought it might be that ignition thingamajig, nope....
Went to my parents house, left and it took forever to get it to do anything, so I stopped ay Oriellys to get some more contact cleaner as I was out, went out and it wouldnt start at all. Had lights , all the bells and whistles, it just would not start. Ran a check on the battery and there was the issue. BAD BATTERY. So I bought the best one available for this car and fired right up !!!
I also bought the repair manual so I can familarize myself on the PT, as I decided to just keep it, I love the car, very comfortable and fun to drive.

Let us chalk up another weird PT issue to a bad battery.

Strange ... but true.
