Default rattleing rear end??

i took the rear seats outrta my cruiser to clean my interior, b4 i left to go camping! i kept the rear seats out to see how much of a difference in fuel mileage i could save. (honestly not enough to say so.) with the rear seats out i can hear a serious rattling in my rearend, (no im not a rattlesnake) every time i hit a bump the noise is horrible. clattering; metal on metal; clashing almost.

has anyone ever expirenced this before? if so what coul it be?

Mine does it because I have no spare tire carrier and the rod just dangles in the hole in back.

grab your spare tire and see if it's in there loose. did you ever fix your weird wear pattern on the tires? maybe it's related. also check the shocks are tight and the top rubber bushing is in ok condition. i just fixed a GTP that sounded awful because the rubber bushings were shot

I was just given a 2001 PT Cruiser with only 86,000 miles ,,,
I had to replace the PCM and new rims to get it running and road worthy.
thinking it was ready to go ,,,, i drove it for the first time -
Shocked by the extremely loud bang/clunk/rattle going on underneath ??!!

It was the watts link ,,,,,,,,, The center pivot has 1/4+ slop.

It is attached to the top of the "rear axle beam" ,,, facing forward.
I thought something was going to break. Not sure if it is normal for it to be
worn out this soon ?

Yup my "side to side clunk" was the Watts link on our 01 with 70 K miles. About a $90 dealer part , luckily they had it. Start soaking the area with Pen oil if everything will break loose and i did it under a jacked and supported car (2 hrs not so easy) D~

if it aint the tire mount for the spare.

Its the wattslink. No question.

Sorry friend.

Napa carries the link for $69 including tax.

Need a picklefork to remove the boots. may have to chase some threads. about a 2 hour job.
