Exclamation 04 engine need help

ok my sister in law has a 04 pt base w/o turbo umm id say it has about 110k miles on the engine ok well heres my story about 6 or 7 months ago it started to make this really weird noise i couldnt even tell what it sounded like it just sounded really nasty then id say about 2 or 3 weeks later she was driving it and hit a big puddle of water then it just shut off kicked the bucket wouldnt start or anything so we get it back to the house my and my bro her hubby had a good ideal to go and try to start it witch i thank was a bad i deal but i dont know crap about cars and they never got the 100k routine maintenance just wondering if i should even bother fixing the engine or just go get one from a junk yard cuz with parts and labor it will cost about the same for a engine i just want to get it going so i can have a car to drive i hate riding my bike all over town

.

I am no expert, but you say 100,000 miles, and they never had the 100,000 mile maintenance, I would guess perhaps the timing belt has gone.

I'd like to help but ran out of breath trying to read that umm story. I agree about the timing belt.
OurPTGT, Vlefaive and Badglas like this.

Punctuation is your friend. Your "story" is very hard to read and understand.

I agree with the timing belt idea. There's no sense in replacing the whole engine without knowing why it quit in the first place, and certainly not because of a broken timing belt (if that's indeed the case).

Certainly at that mileage that'd be what one would think-
BUT, the water puddle throws a 'twist' into it ...

Like a 'twisted'* rod from sucking in water, however I'm not sure this would prevent it from running

* More at, 'bent', but couldn't resist

Me neither. Had to take remedial classes in college-

Yes, I'd suggest going to dealer for the water pump.
And idlers, too- tensioner

Mopar doesn't make the belt, nor bearings in idler.

I *believe* litens makes the tensioner

So in short, I'd get a Mopar water pump (New, not rebuilt) a Gates belt/pulley kit (I'm sure GY would be fine, too), and these guys will have to speak to you about tensioners
