Default 2002 PT cruiser starter / solenoid

I have a PT cruiser that needs a starter / solenoid / cable replacement the dealer wants $750? I live in lower Alabama & know items are more expensive as where I live is a tourist area but that seems really high. Any advise? Thanks

the wife's 2001 solenoid was broken where the positive cable attached. did some research and a '94 jeep solenoid fits (cuz you can't buy just the solenoid for the pt). the wiring you can get the same gauge at a hardware store and cut to length then crimp connectors on the ends.

don't know about the starter itself.

Why would the cable need replaced? Repair the end yourself. And don't go to the dealer for a starter replacement. Ask around for a good independent shop. Should be able to get it done for less than three.

Lower Alabama is a tourist area? Forget about that being the reason for the high price. Your dealer is trying to stay in business on your and any other service customer that comes his way.

I can't find the thread but it was on this forum about the starter issue being the Solenoid and how a 95 jeep cherokee solenoid would work. Well, I called autozone and the woman there said they don't sell the solenoids separate much like the pt's. Only the full starter. Where are you guys finding the solenoid?

don't know if this is usable, but try and match the size.

well I found this one here:
STARTER SOLENOID Chrysler PT Cruiser 2.4L 01-02 Nissan Maxima Murano 3.5L | eBay

I tried tapping on the solenoid. NOTHING

I tried jumping it... NOTHING

I tried rolling it down the hill and starting it (manual) Nothing churgged a bit but wouldn't turn over.

When I try to start it it makes the usual sound like it's gonna turn over but it just continues on and on....

WHat does that sound like to you guys?
