sounds like an issue with the guage itself *best case scenario* where its just getting stuck.
OR sounds like the floater in the tank is stuck *worst case*. |

any way you look at it, when the light comes on, fill 'er up. then 1. you don't have to worry about it. and 2. most importantly, you never want to get it that low if it's not necessary. the fuel pump is cooled by the fuel and you won't be drudging up crud from the bottom of the tank.
