Default Question About A/C Settings

On every PT Cruiser interior picture I see I've noticed that people set their air conditioners to "Recirculate". But the instruction manual says it should be ran on "Outside Air".

From the Book.

Use this control to choose between
outside air intake or
recirculation of the air inside
the vehicle. Only use the recirculate
mode to temporarily

block out any outside odors,
smoke, or dust and to cool the
interior rapidly upon initial
start up in very hot or humid
weather.
This control only operates in the Outside Air and Recirculate
modes; there is no in between position. Do not
place the control between these positions.
NOTE: Continuous use of the recirculate mode may
make the inside air stuffy and window fogging may
occur. Extended use of this mode is not recommended.
In cold or damp weather, the use of the Recirculate
position will cause windows to fog on the inside because
of moisture build up inside the vehicle. For maximum
defogging, select the Outside Air position.

How do you guys set your A/C in hot weather?

A/C with recirculation turned on will give you maximum cooling. Many other vehicles do this automatically to accomplish maximum cooling when you first start using A/C. When my car reaches a comfortable level I start using exterior air.

I keep it on recirculate for maximum cooling ALL the time. If I want the A/C on, I want it as cold as it will get.

I keep it on all the time. I have bad allergies plus like it really cold in the car so I keep it on. All you are doing is closing a door so it's not like it puts any strain on the system.

I've been trying what works best for me last couple of days, and so far I've found that the "outside air" setting feels just as cold if not colder than "recirculating air".
And since I just added a brand new cabin filter, at least I'm confident that the air coming in the car, is clean.

The cabin air filter is one of my next mods.

I do the recir thing to cool it down faster also and then switch to fresh air. I too saw that the new cars do the recir and max air thing.

Recir all the time worries me because of the "potential" for the mold oder thing although I have never had an issue with it in many decades of driving.
