Default Changed MFS now no turn signals. Help!

I'm the new owner of an '03 GT Turbo.
I bought a MFS from Rock Auto because my fog lights didn't work. It arrived today and I changed it out. It immediately made a strange grinding sound and the turn signals didn't work at all. I discovered a 15 amp fuse blown under the engine. All other fuses, both in the engine compartment and the interior of the car are good. I replaced the fuse and it again made the grinding noise and blew the fuse when I turned the car on and tried the signals. The good news is that the fog lights worked momentarily, so at least I know what the problem is with that for sure. I then decided to put the old MFS back and deal with the issue later. Problem is, while the hazards work fine, the turn signals don't at all. I can't find any other fuses that appear to be blown. What gives? I really need to be able to drive my car and this should have been a simple switch. Can anyone please help me to find out what the problem is and fix it?
Thanks in advance.

Did you swap the flasher unit from the old MFS to the new unit? The new MFS doesn't come with one so you have to use your old one.

I sure did! I swapped that and the wiper lever as well. The flasher unit apparently works since my 4 ways work. I did everything right, but the part apparently isn't compatible, despite looking exactly like the old one and despite supposedly ordering the correct one. I just need my signals to work again so I can run my car again.

Turns out I fried what was left of my original part, somehow. Either that, or it was ready to fail anyway and the timing was coincidental.
I went to the local wrecker and purchased a used MFS and installed it and everything works fine now, including the headlights. I really didn't want o spend $155.00 on a part that, given the performance of the last one, may or may not work. Especially after they told me that as soon as I installed it, they wouldn't take it back. The wrecker's seemed a better deal because not only was it only $60.00, but they told me if it didn't work, they would have no problem taking it back.
I also bought a new battery as the old battery was definitely on its way out. Now I know why people complain about it so much. It turned out to be a 3 hour job because of a stripped terminal nut and a frozen screw that holds down the bar across the battery. Incidentally, the car still had what appeared to be the original battery (Mopar brand). I can see why they never bothered to change it, since it requires removing the air cleaner and fighting with said parts.
