Default New lower control arms...and now a problem

I ordered two lower control arms (Moog) a lower right-side motor mount (Anchor) and sway bar end links (Moog), all from RockAuto. I was skeptical about the quality of the parts, given that the control arms are nearly 50% less expensive than any of the national retail chains, but RockAuto seems to get a lot of positive feedback here and on other forums, so I took a shot.

I had the parts installed at a local shop today and had to pick-up the car after the shop had closed. Upon making a left turn out of the shop, I heard a loud clunk that I'd never heard before. Basically, in any hard left hand turn or when turning with a change of elevation (like pulling into a driveway on an apron) I hear a loud clunk and I think I can feel it a bit in the wheel.

I'll have to try to get it back to the shop ASAP but I'm curious if this could be a bad ball joint (out of the box) or if it's likely the shop installed something incorrectly?

Thanks.

Tipsy

Most shops will test drive before they release a serviced vehicle. I recommend that you not drive the PT until you at least either have your concern looked at or contact the shop that performed the work. It is good that you posted this information here so it now is at least a matter of record for you.
As for speculation about the part having something wrong, it is always possible where ever you gets parts from. Most service shops will inspect the parts prior the installation to at least visually attest to its correctness.

Moog is a well known parts supplier. So chances are youwould have ended up with the same parts if you payed more locally. Sounds like something may have been over looked. Maybe the mechanic was called away in the middle of things and missed something. Either way should have test drove the car.

I've been searching old forum posts for a while. I think this sounds like the most likely culprit.

I agree!

How is it possible to install the strut mount incorrectly?

It's a triangular bolt pattern on mine. Only one way it will go on.

Just thought you might know.

I'm wondering as well. I didn't think the strut was normally removed when replacing lower control arms?

I hope it's self evident if there's a problem with the strut orientation once the car is up on the rack.

Just thought I'd follow-up since a lot of OP's never come back to post the outcome of their situation;

My original contention was correct. The ball joint on the brand new, made in China, Moog control arm was bad out-of-the-box.

New control arm installed. Clunking sound gone.

Hmm well good you have your PT back up and running correctly.

Bad for the shop you had the work done. A bad ball joint should have been seen or detected during the installation if not the test drive they should have performed before you picked you PT up from them?

Not a shop I would recommend to anybody I liked.
