Default Starting Issues

03 Base. Last week my wife called to tell me that the car would not start but it turned over. I got there and it started with the key normally. This morning it did the same thing, it will not start. I plugged the block heater and battery blanket since 8:30 this morning and still will not start.

The car will turn over and I will get the rumble that she is going to go for a second but nothing happens. The starter will continue to crank but I will not get the rumble again unless I kill and restart the start sequence. I tried starting with my portable battery booster but no help.

Did check for codes with OBDII and came back with P0700 and P0562. It's too cold at the moment, about -20F, so I will just wait 'til it warms up a little (in the spring ) before I tinker with it. Will 562 make it not start? I checked for codes last summer and there were none so those codes were recent.

But feel free to suggest what I have to check . I am suspecting fuel pump.

One of the battery posts was dirty so that got cleaned and due for replacement soon. I may have tried to start it too many times and I pulled the plugs and they were wet with fuel. Cleaned that and put back, she started. Drove around the town, tried starting it again after and she started just fine. I had to bring her in buddy's garage to work on it.

This morning, which is colder than the other day, PT would not start again. I am now guessing it is cold weather related. I hope to find out soon.

I'm with soyomb, cold weather eats batteries. if you have a meter, see if the battery is up to around 11.8 volts when the engine is off. You need around that to get the engine going.

I've had a couple of batteries that went bad and usually it will give you the slow cranking as a sign that is about to go. None of that happened and when I checked the battery a couple of months ago it was good and production date was September 2009, which is fairly "new" considering the car has a battery blanket (wrapped around the battery and heats up when plugged in) and no issues when temps dipped down a week ago.

Just for the fun of it I hooked up my battery charger and it started when fully charged. Let it run for about 15 minutes. 2 hours later, when about to buy a new battery car would not start again. I boosted it up and she started.

New battery is installed and she started fine this morning. Hopefully there is no electrical issues that is draining the charge. I will find out when temps dip again in the next couple of days.

Thanks for all the help.

You had a dead cell. Had a Walmart battery with a weak cell charged up tested good at wally world. Left an drained the power and upon return it checked bad and they replaced it.
