That's a real good question...been thinking the same thing myself...so far, my solution has been driving the Jeep in the snow. There was talk on this forum a little while ago about a detachable so-called "tow hook" found on the front of some PTs (European models perhaps) but it looked like a glorified eyebolt and not substantial enough to use as a recovery point. On my PT, there is a bracket bolted on the rear but it probably is intended as a tie down point for use during transport and again not intended for recovery. Been thinking about fabricating something but haven't come up with a answer yet. Safety is the biggest issue here...hooking to the wrong place can damage the vehicle or turn the attach point into a missile if it lets go.

So how bad is it with the snowfall where you are ? Cause to me that looks like a silly question. Here in Belgium worst case we have 15" of snow, but with my snowtyres I will get away anytime.

Moreso, two winters ago I pulled out of the worst snow conditions ever in my live, on summer tyres and with the help of my Honda Civic's traction controll.

It seems that in some European countries tow hooks (tow eyes?) are required to be included by the manufacturer........

Tow hook question

Apparently that's not the case in the USA.

The rear tie down is more than capable to pull you out if you are cleared out behind you before you start. Also pull straight back not sideways. In front there is nothing. The only substantially strong peace is the main cross member. Where all the suspention is connected to. Be hard to get to if you're stuck.

Downside- be prepared to replace your bushings, and ball joints later that day :-D but it works in an emergency haha :-p

what is the rear tie down? when i googled it all i could find was this: " One involved a PT Cruiser that was buried up to the floor boards in snow. I was in the old Chevy truck in my snow vid. The only way I could latch on was to drive around behind them (they did a lazy 180 and dropped in the ditch backwards), hook the tow strap to the rear tie down point and drag them out by going FURTHER in the ditch, then out again. In the process I bent the living **** out of that tie down point. They weren't THAT concerned about it, but they did kind of freak out."

This is the tie down. As you can see pulling sideways would easily bend this but a straight on pull would be OK.
mityqwik and rob342 like this.
