Default Buying PT soon!

Hello everybody..Been lurking and reading all I can.I have always liked the PT Cruiser and with tax time coming up, I have decided to buy one.I'm just wondering if I should stay away from the turbo models.I've had a few turbo cars and they are a blast to drive, but I've heard some bad things about the turbo models and also from what I gather the auto trans give some problems. So what would you buy if you was me? Should I steer clear of the turbo or any PT with auto trans?

it all depends on how your gonna drive it. I love my 03 GT auto. I would like it to be a stick but oh well. I drive mine hard and haven't had a problem yet. Just don't boost in 4th gear and you'll be fine. Mine has 103k on it and with the DiabloSport predator I get 18-20 lbs of boost, which I use alot.

PS: Welcome to the forum.

Exclamation Re: Buying PT soon!

I have an 06 gt 5 speed.

They are pretty hard to find, but they are out there.

All the vehicles I have owned have been either 5 or 6 speeds.

I am "no stick, no sale" kind of guy

Good luck, stop back with pics when you purchase, I love to see alot of pics lol

Definitely get a turbo, and put only synthetic oil in it.
There are 2 turbos - the GT, which requires premium gas and comes in auto or stick, and "turb Lite" which came in auto only, but uses regular gas. GT makes at 215-230 HP (depending on year), while turbo lite makes 180.
Regular PTs make 150 HP.
I have over 110,000 miles on my turbo lite, and only problem I had was a bad ABS wheel sensor.

spend time looking for a good one, shop condition, low miles and ones with maintenance log books.

You will find in general, around my area, convertibles have lower miles because some dont drive them in the winter. GT 5 spds and base 5spd are cheaper because people cant drive sticks any more so they sit on lots, do your homework on prices, look at edmunds and figure to pay private sale prices.

per the turbo vs non and auto vs stick, I like GT sticks but I came across a 06 base convertible with an auto and the price was so cheap and car only had 4000 miles I couldnt say no. to be truthful, it runs fine and is making a good witner beater

My footer says it all.. I love mine every day of our 6 years together.... My daughter drives now and even the teens are learning to dig it, and that says a LOT!
'03 GT Blue/ autostick.. 160,000KM ( That's 100,000miles for y'all South of the border ) All the options, the heated leather is a must up here in Canada, Love the solid heavy duty feel and obvious Torque.. The Turbo is strong, fast and reliable.. People that don't understand the love of a PT, probably don't deserve to.

I only have a base model. I would prefer to have a GT but I have the base 5 speed and it still picks up and goes. Haven't drove a GT yet but I love mine!

I will chime in with the get a GT recommendation too. Not just a turbo,, get the GT. The price difference is boo compared to how much more car and features you get for the money.
Not that I would not own an NA because I would.
