Default transmission issue??

01 pt just rolled 175xxx miles. driving along it kicked into like neutral then slammed into gear. now it only kicks into gear when i get the RPM above 2500 then slams into gear. transmission fluid is still bright red. seems to be ok (maybe a little low but shouldnt cause an issue)
and if it matters the temperature was a frigid -12 degrees this morning.

Get codes read, check fluid level.

Service history?

maybe a speed distance sensor or wiring to the TCM?

all fixed. one of the lines from the cooler to the tranny was split. drained the rest of fluid and topped it off!!

Im having this same problem as of this morning with my 2005. I put it into gear, and it doesnt MOVE AN INCH until i practically stomp the gas. as im driving it seams to neutralize for a few seconds, and then catches gear again. pulled back up into my drive way, and put it in park. let it sit a moment and put it into gear. it rolled BACKWARDS several inches before ever catching gear to keep it from moving back. I am unsure as to when the trans fluid was changed last. at what mileage should it be changed. I am sitting at 94,000 as of right now.

MY book says change the fluid and filter at 48,000 miles (77000 km). Did mine at 50 and 100,000 miles.

trans fluid is fine. It is still red, and full. When this occured, engine light came on. Had code read, and it came back TCM *transmission control module* so far I have had no luck finding one.

Surprisingly, Had transmission serviced. Runs great again. transmission filter was extremely clogged *thick black material caked to filter* very MINIMAL metal on magnet inside transmission pan *which I was told will be there at ALL times* is there still a chance that transmission will fail again given the fact it clogged up so bad and the metal?

The 'thick black material' was probably the clutches wearing due to low oil pressure due to a clogged filter. I would change oil and filter in 5000 miles just to see if there is wear still occuring. ATF +4 ONLY.
