Default Key and Fob

Hi,

I'm in the UK and I've just bought my first Cruiser, a 2001 Touring.
The car only came with one key, so want to get another one and also a remote fob.
Is there any way of programming a new key with me just having one, I was thinking of going to a local locksmith to get one cut as they say they can program them, but not sure if they use the method in the manual.
And can I program a fob with these keys?

Chrysler are charging way too much for this.

I have this same situation, but here in the US.
I'd love to find a way to do this without the dealer.

don't know about the fob, but any decent locksmith or home improvement store, ie, acehardware, lowes, homedepot can clone your existing key a lot cheaper than a dealership.

those stores can copy a key, but it'll only open the doors; won't start the car.
we (I work at home Depot) can't reproduce or program the chip in the keys.

i know most Ace Hardware stores can clone the keys and most locksmiths can nowadays. Since you are oversea's I would try a locksmith.

I've just had a key cloned in the UK for my cruiser for 30. Timpsons did it, they're nationwide too. Took about ten minutes and does the same as the original key.

Timpsons Eh! Never thought of them! Does it also start the car?
30 sounds like a bargain!

I've just had a quote from a local locksmith and he said he could program it, but he'd need to have the car there and it would be 80 plus the key.

Went to Timpson's today and in their half price offer, got my key cut and programmed for 30. Works perfectly. They can also program a fob for me ( a lot cheaper than those rip off merchants, Chrysler) , so time to check eBay for a cheap fob.

Spoke to the dealership a few days ago and they wanted $130 for a programmed key!

Just got off the phone with a local locksmith and he told me $60 and the whole process would take less than 10 minutes.
