Default Question about shifter

I have a GT 5 speed and it shifts fine with no problem but when it is in a gear, their is about an inch or two of play in the shifter if you pull it back and push it forward, while its in gear..Is this normal?? It feels like all the play is at the shifter. Guess I need to check the bushings.I wouldn't think its normal..

Cool Re: Question about shifter

That is sorta normal... I would recommend replacing the bushings with Boogers. They are awesome! Best 20 bucks I have spent on my Cruiser.

My newly acquired 03 5 speed has that movement to but shifts fine. Without wondering if you got the right gear. So I would say it is normal.

Regardless, I would still upgrade to the booger bushings. $20 bucks and never worry about shifting being strange because of worn bushings.

Also as an added benefit!

They are easyto install as pop up airbox and push in new bushings shift happy.

Thanks everybody..Yeah I will probably do the upgrade..Just didn't know if it would be sooner, than later .. I'm kinda low on funds right now after the timing belt, idler, tensioner, water pump, crank seal, camshaft seals, antifreeze, plugs, oil change and K&N drop in filter..

It's not an emergency do so give yourself a breather. You can visually inspect the bushings for damage if you are concerned. I have the same play and I already inspected the bushings and found no issue.

Also don't forget there are two bushings inside the car as well. Usually the outside ones go. But my inside ones went soon after I put on boogers on the outside. I guess its cause the boogers are so firm!

Yes good point. I forget some may not know about the inside cable ends.
