Default Burnt Valve??

2001 PT with 99k miles. She'd been overheating. Cooling fan didnt work, replaced it. Overheated again, leaking coolant, mechanic recommended water pump w timing belt..replaced them.

After paying to have the new water pump and timing belt installed, the shop is giving my PT back in worse condition than I gave it to them. They gave it back with an extremely rough idle, a leaking fuel line (paid them to replace that) & the engine light came on AND it won't idle, it dies if I don't rev the engine at stops. They say I have a burnt valve.

BUT if I had a burnt valve why didn't these issues exist when I took her to the shop for a water pump? She started fine, idled fine and the engine light never came on when I took her to them.

I feel like their was damage done during this repair and if not refunded I may have to go to court. I JUST NEEDED A WATER PUMP! I've spent $1,400 and my car is worse now than when I started.

These cars are very hard to get back into time if you don't have a lot of experience doing it. Sounds like they got the timing off. That is probably what is causing the light also.

As all above. But you haven't given the code. That would be helpful.

If you have an opportunity get a analog dial diagnostic vacuum gauge and connect it to the engine anywhere you have a direct idle vacuum draw and post what the gauge reads and is doing.

NEW Members really should have more information about at least their PT in the "view public profile" area. You have no idea how helpful it is to both you and others trying to help you!!!!!
Take some time as a member here and go fill it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!rolleyes:

The shop broke it down to the timing belt and had me go back and see that the two timing belt lines are in line. Said they 'played' with the cams and maybe
That will help. Looks like if this isn't the issue then I need a valve job. Asked him what code it was throwing he said he couldn't remember he'd have to check again but thought it was a 171

I never get tired of reading what "mechanic's" (supposed) do to all your PT's ? Wow!
played with your cams (???) and think it was a P0171 code??? No work order huh?

As said previously by another member quote: "I feel your pain dude...".

Question Re: Burnt Valve??

When you say "the shop" I'm assuming is not at a Chrysler dealer.. right?
