Question Coolant Leak

2004 Turbo PT Cruiser.

I've got a coolant leak around the radiator somewhere near the bottom (I think): it is pooling on the underside of the front bumper, then running out there. Reservoir was empty so I refilled it which is when I noticed the leak.

I don't mind getting under the car to replace hoses / clamps / etc but let's start with this: I began by just taking a flashlight and looking at the underside of the engine. How would I possibly get to anything under the car, and investigate where the leak is actually coming from? How many hoses / clamps / other connections are there to the very front "stuff" which might be possibly leaky?

You sure your leaky is coolant? Is it the same color as what is in the radiator? If yes, you could have a leak on the top or bottom. A top leak will run down and pool on the ground just like a bottom leak.

Could be the upper or lower radiator hose. The leak most often found is around the plastic pipe that connects the upper radiator hose to where the thermostat is. You can see it with a flashlight for tell tale signs of dried orange/whitish fluid or a bad leak will be wet around the thermostat area.

You could also have a radiator leak which could be anywhere.

Pretty certain it's coolant: reservoir was empty, the drips are a reddish brown and very watery (evaporated off my finger), which rules out anything oil-based.

I think it's coming from the bottom somewhere. Should I just get under with a flashlight and look harder?

As I said, even a leak from the top will find it's way to the bottom and then to the ground. Check where the thermostat is first and if it's all dry around there, yes, it's time to get down & dirty and take a good lok around the bottom of the engine.

Jack up the car, put a piece of clean cardboard under it, note where drip is and look above.

Could be loose clamp, worn hose or check seem at radiator, mine was weeping so I replaced it.
