Default 2007 Idle/Traffic overheating issue

Hi, I have a 2007 PT Cruiser that has started to overheat when idling, sitting in traffic or at stop light. Fan was replaced in July of 2012 because A/C was blowing hot air and the fan was bad. Now the A/C blows cold air but the fan does not spin. Temperature is around 200 when moving, and rises when not moving. Car has about 158,300 miles on it. Coolant is new from the last fan replacement and is still green. Heat is hot like it always has been. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Does the fan come on when the AC is on? If not the fan has failed. This happened on my daughter's 06. The fan failed. Replaced with a Dorman and it failed 6 months later. Luckily it had a lifetime warranty.

Agree with Ray. They fan is almost a year old and as you said, it doesn't spin so it looks like you diagnosed your own problem. Follow Ray's advice and get a Dorman with a lifetime warranty.

Could this be a relay? If so, it seems weird for both to be blown. A/C blows cold air but the fan doesn't work. I plan on removing the fan tomorrow and testing it.

Gamer, It could also be a relay. There are 2 of them on the fan shroud [pass side] . If you have a non turbo, you have a two speed fan motor. Crewzin has an article here on how to test the fan motor without removing it. You will need 2 long jumper wires with small covered alligator clips on one end; and larger clips [like the size of a small battery charger] on the other end. They are also great for grounding spark plugs, etc. About 6' long each.

Fan wasn't the issue. Somehow both relays were bad and after replacing them with new ones fan works like it should. Problem seems to be fixed now. Thanks for all the help.

That's weird because both relays would have been new too. They get replaced with the fan unit. And both bad? Did you by chance unhook the battery when you replaced the relay's?

Yes. I took battery out to test the fan from under the car.

Did you hook the battery back up after testing and try it or just replace the relays. I am wondering if the issue was the TIPM needing reset.

Those thing are a product of the second gen wiring. Same thing happens to the headlights.
