Default Thermostat question? Has been leaking

I have a leak from the thermostat housing. Its been leaking for some time. Is there a trick to getting it to seal and how does it mount? Does it need to be in a certain way, since it not centered perfectly on the thermostat itself. Took it out, before realizing it might not be like the rest I have replaced.

plastic housing will warp- Being cheap, i've used oversized washers, drilled brass inserts, and other things cheap people do.

Old coolant will corrode both surfaces on the water neck, and leaking cap will make it look like thermostat seal is leaking

A loose overflow hose will run coolant down the side as well. Housing will also crack. Tstat should be center the hole as you look down through the neck.

The dealer had no thermostats and had no clue when they would. Said there were problems or something they were working on. Any one heard this?

Found oem on eBay. Gasket was In bad shape so might have been there. Bolts might have been loose. Heard radiator cap could appear to make housing leak.
