Default Possible future PT owner questions

I'm looking at several PT Cruisers to possibly buy and make one handicap accessible.

Please help me on these questions

1. How many different models are there and what are the differences in models?

2. Are some models better than others?

3. Are these pretty reliable cars?

4. What model would you recommend and why?

Thanks for your help and I look forward to making lots of PT Cruiser car enthusiasts friends here.

There's 2 generations of Cruisers. 2001-2005, 2006-2010. The difference is mostly cosmetic except for the new electrical system called CAN-BUS in the later models.

The three trim versions are Base, Touring and Limited. Then there's a host of special models that Chrysler produced, about 1 per year. Most were called Dream Cruisers. Special colors and options.

There's 3 types of motors. All are 2.4 ltr, non-interference engines, which means if the timing belt breaks it won't cost a fortune. The 3 are conventional (non-turbo) at 150hp, Turbo-Lite (regular gas) at 180 hp and the Full Turbo (premium gas) at 215-230 hp depending on the year.

Is one generation more reliable than the other, don't think so. I would say to look around for the newest or one with the least miles, possibly a record of maintenance (don't depend on CARFAX) and try to have the car looked over by someone who knows cars (don't depend on the owner or salesman, both are trying to sell the car)
