Default tick tick tick loud noise :-(

My manual pt has developed a rather loud ticking noise , pressing the clutch peddle stops the noise , im thinking its the release bearing . . . Does this sound right ?
And if so is there anything that can be done without dropping the box ?
Thanks in advance

Could be the bolts that hold flexplate to clutch becoming loose- Classic symptom.

Grim; check for freeplay in the clutch fork. The fork should not touch the throwout bearing with the clutch pedal up. This usually doesn't cause a loud noise, but worth a try.

are you sure?
The cable trans TOB was designed to run in contact (Why????), at least that's what FSM said.

I'd assume hydraulic is same

Uptown; No, I'm not sure. But constant contact of the fingers of the pressure plate and the throwout bearing might cause premature wear? The older cars had a little spring outside the bellhousing to pull the bearing off the fingers. The new stuff might be different.

Reaper; before you pull the tranny, check the flex-plate bolts like Uptown said. Also, check for hairline cracks around the bolts. --- And bleed the slave cylinder to eliminate any air pockets. And try to find out where the noise is coming from before you pull the tranny.

Uptown update; I looked up the parts manual for 06-08 [from tech and perf.] and found the diagram of the clutch systems. page 58 and 59, fig. 6-310 and fig 6-320. As I read it, the turbos are radically different than the non-turbos relating to the slave cylinders? Complication breeds confusion. --- Deep huh?
