Default Brutal Brutal loss of a morning

So here I am all happy to do my own rotors and pads today and damn if I could pound the old ones off ! Everything failed.. I need a hoist and a sledge... just in case there's any other DIY rookies interested ... 10 year old rotors don't just pop off. I also took the time to watch another guy on Youtube lose his mind trying to break the rust seal .. Here in Canada we have brutal salted roads too, so that didn't help.. literally welded on !
..
Nice 3 tonne hydraulic jack and jack stands.. All the parts, all the research ..careful as can be to do everything right? and.....
..door is slammed in face..
..
Picture asking Megan Fox out for coffee... same result...
Well maybe not you Crewzin.
.. There's my misery to share

The Turbo is strong, fast and reliable.. People that don't understand the love of a PT, probably don't deserve to.

You have to hit them HARD, don't be afraid to use a 2lb hammer or sledge.

I had to get drums off old bombs- these are far, far worse than rotors.

I will say it's amazing what drums, hubs and bearings take!

Do you really need new rotors? I'd say it's one of the most replace items that shouldn't be. Also, quality of average aftermarket rotors is generally much poorer than OEMs

Spray some PB blaster around the 5 studs and let it work down.

Of course first thing I do on every car when i get it new or used is remove the rotors and put some antiseize on the bearing flanges so they dont stick, ditto the rotor hat so the wheels wont stick.

Once burned twice learned!

Hit from all directions too, kinda like a torque pattern for bolts... just one little trick I learned from my mechanic days.

I have been there with a different car... no fun.

the answer is a bigger hammer and getting angry with it!

If only it was on a hoist and I had a 20lb sledge... I'd show that SOB ! LOL .. Oh well, I'm amazed what they can take you're all right.... There's some ugly nicks on the rotor surface now too ! Just couldnt get the right angle and leverage... Next time rotors watch out I'm shopping for a hoist ! I'm also amazed the brakes are still relatively smooth ! Like I say with the new wounds

A good piece of wood will work too-
Like a 2x4
I do hear you, the town I worked in was rather poor, so we got all the old,well-salted wrecks.

I never hit the rotors on the braking surface. I hit it on the hat between the studs, flat and hard. Do not hit the studs and damage the threads. Quick hard hard smacks. Even around the outside edges of the hat.

I've used a crow bar between rotor and steering knuckle. I'd you can't break it add the jack handle as a pipe extension. When it pops it may fly off.
