Default Looking at buying 08 Touring Edition

My company is selling a 2008 Cruiser Touring Edition, 2.4, non-turbo motor. It has 111,xxx miles, good shape, but has been sitting for 6+ months. So far, I have not been able to verify any of the maintenance, so I am assuming all fluids will have to be changed.

Does the timing belt need to be changed regularly on these?

We had a hard time starting it, as the battery was dead. I let it run for 20 minutes and it started, but got weak, so assuming it needs a batter. When I tried restarting it, it would sputter and almost stall until I gave it gas and it cleared itself up. Not sure if it needs a tune-up or if there is another issue. The CEL is not on.

What else is common issues with these?

No machanic, but most recommend timing belt at 100k . The real machanics will chime in with good advice.

If it hasn't been done the timing belt is expensive between 750-1300 higher end goes to the dealer. Just had mine done it was about 800 with the water pump and hoses and other belts. So make sure you get it for a good price if they didn't do it. If you can steal for a good price it may be worth putting some money into it.

I have verifed the timing belt has not been done. It also needs a full tune up. I thinking I can get it for $1200-1500. From there, I have a good friend that is ASE certified mechanic, and we get to drink beer afterward fixing it.
Dino, Motorhead and zamfir2 like this.
