Default Auto Power Window Problem

I've searched through the forums and haven't seen this one posted....

You know how when you press & hold for a second the front power window switches the window will retract all the way down by itself without having to hold the button down until it goes all the way down?

Well, all of a sudden, it quit working on the drivers side. It will work just fine if you hold the button for the entire time and the passenger side auto feature still works.

I know I sound like I'm whining because I have to hold that button for a few more seconds, but once you get used to it, you miss it.

Is that one switch flaking out or lost a contact point and need to be replaced?

I have a 2002 Touring Edition.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Phil

Try resetting the computer by taking off the negative battery cable for about 5 minutes. Put it back together and see if that helps.

Auto-down is activated when the switch is moved (against a spring tension) to its limit. Unseen without disassembling the switch, a tab on the switch rocker presses against a small momentary contact switch.
In the first picture, the upper left rocker is removed; look for the black post. The rocker tab and post relation can be seen at the upper right in picture.
Either tab or post could be damaged.

Unlike the up-down operation, auto down doesn't use the switch contacts that can pit and wear.

In the last picture, the backside of the black posts are seen (left) as black pads (circles). These press against the actual switches, the two of which are seen on the circuit board (right); the switches are gray.
I do not know, but suspect the switches control the timer chip on the circuit board, so you now have two switches and a circuit board as possible electrical failure points. Replacing the entire switch unit might be done for $25-$30 used.
