Default Clear Codes After Droman TIPM Replacement?

Hey guys, I have a 2007 PT Cruiser. I could say many....nice....things about this car, but I'll hold my tongue.

I'm planning on replacing the TIPM this weekend with the Dorman Refurbished, Self Programming unit. I don't ACTUALLY know that it is bad, it's just a hopeful diagnostic based on the fact the the A/C stopped working randomly one day (the light comes on, but the compressor doesn't cycle. I can jump the compressor and it blows ice cold though), the wiper mist function doesn't work, the wipers will randomly turn themselves on sometimes, and all 4 windows will sometimes not function. I didn't want to pay Chrysler $100 to tell me what I may already know, especially if that is 1/3 of the cost of the alleged repair.

Anyways, so the (limited) instructions that came with the Dorman part state that after installing, turn the car on for 12 seconds (not 11, noor 13, but 12). Then it says that after the unit programs itself, it is normal for pretty much every warning light to come. (Check engine, ABS, Wireless Transmitter, etc.) It says to clear the codes and go on your merry way. It doesn't actually tell you have to clear said codes. Will simply disconnecting the battery clear these codes?

I don't want to run into any issues. I'm hoping this will be a simple 10 minute job.

I have the same question. Dorman says to clear codes but does not tell you how to do it. Is a trip to the dealer the only way to clear codes on a reman'd Dorman TIPM install?

The BEST way to clear the codes is by using a scanner. The dealer, mechanic and most decent auto shops carry one and the auto shops can scan and delete them for free. The simple home method (which might not clear all the codes) is to take the negative battery cable off for about 5-10 minutes, step on the brake pedal to get rid of an residual charge and hook the cable back up.

I used a dorman TIPM last year to fix no low beam but I also had problems multiple codes from bad PCM. There were no further problems from lights
or TIPM. No I didn't have to go to the dealer to get codes cleared.

You can buy your own OBII & CAN Scan Tool at Harbor Freight or other auto part stores. Do not buy the OBII & CAN Scan Reader as it will only allow you read the codes.
