Default Overheating again!!!

I have a 2003 (non-turbo) with 272,000 mi., 5-speed manual. During the first drive of every day the engine overheats, I turn on the heater and fan and the gauge immediately returns to normal temperature. I turn off the heater and the engine temperature remains normal the rest of the day, no matter what type of driving I'm doing or how often I start and stop the car. I've replaced the thermostat, radiator cap and cooling fan. Nothing seems to help. Any ideas out there?

Steve

Yes, i had it at the dealer and they flushed it and replaced the coolant. They have not been able to find a solution either. They told me that they are at the point of just guessing what might be wrong and start replacing parts.

272,000 miles ! Nice..... Sounds like it's time to convert it into a giant cube ..... jk ....... Confirm the fan is good, it seems to always be the source of grief ..

The Turbo is strong, fast and reliable.. People that don't understand the love of a PT, probably don't deserve to.

Water pump was replaced last summer. Dealer claims it's working OK as they see water moving through the radiator neck. I had similar problems with it 2 years ago and ended up replacing the radiator, which fixed it until 4 weeks ago. I just have a hard time believing that radiators clog up that fast...?

I would to but it is a small radiator maybe a back flushing might help and be sure to get all the air out

^^^^Try that. And you're 100% sure it's overheating?? Or you're just going by the gauge?

I'm going by the gauge. Is there any other way to determine if it's overheating?

You can use a code scanner that can view live data. You can get them pretty cheap on eBay. I bought a actron CP9580 for under 100 bucks and it has been useful. They will tell you temperatures, O2 voltages, iat reading, map/maf reading and etc.
