Default Engine Vin #

I purchased an engine from someone to swap out in my PT, but unfortunately it's not a match.

I'm told that I can positively identify this engine by the vin on the engine. The problem is that I'm not sure where to find it.

Can anyone please direct me?

THANKS!!

Tell us the whole story. What you have and why you need a motor and what you bought. Years every thing.

I have a 2006 PT Base model that has a bad head due to cooling fan issues and my wife running it hot.

After talking with a couple shops, I took their advice and looked for a used motor. I found one that was a "great" deal. It had been pretty much totally rebuilt. The guy was selling it because after he did all the work, he found that it would not fit his PT.

The engine is said to be a 2004. My mechanic and a chart that I found on here said it should work. So I bought it.

It doesn't fit.

I've already fixed my PT. Went ahead and bought a remanufactured engine.

Now I'd like to get rid of this engine that I bought and recoup some of what I have in it. But I want to make sure that I'm up front regarding what this engine is. I'm told that the only way to positively identify it is by the engine VIN.

While your giving us all that info, so we can help, here's what the Internet has to say about the engine number....

the engine ID # XXXXX XXXXX the front of the block just to the left of the crank position sensor.

NOW, depending on the year of the block, the CPS is either just above the oil filter (01-03) or just behind the starter motor (2004+).
