Default Radiator Fan Wired Wrong

I put a new radiator fan assembly on my 2007 non turbo PT Cruiser today. Got it from Ebay. It wouldn't work at all. After much wasted time, soul searching, and gnashing of teeth I determined that the electrical plug that hooks to the car's main wiring harness was wired wrong. I compared it to the old fan assembly. The hot and ground wires (heavy wires) were reversed in the plug with the relay activating wires (light duty wires). Has anyone seen that before. I notified the supplier but hope they don't send a replacement just like it.

Can you pop the locking tabs on the wires and put them where they're supposed to go or is the fan smoked now?

I thought about pulling the wires from the plug but they are molded into their sockets and it seems impossible to remove them. I thought about cutting the wires and resplicing them but the light duty wires would be hooked to heavy duty ones for a short distance and I don't like that idea. I don't think the fan is damaged because when trouble shooting I jumped the fan plug to the battery and it ran fine. I'll probably just have to wait for a replacement.

What about splicing it to the old fan connector for now till the new one comes?

That's a good idea. Thanks!

Wait, I'd have to cut the plug off the new assembly and the seller might frown upon that, even though it's no good the way it is.
