Default Need to quiet my '08 down!

Hey guys it has been awhile, having a stroke when your 45 lets just say it sucks. Now for my issue, my PT '08 is loud when on the freeway, road noise , wind noise, I just keep cranking the stereo louder, of course wife is worried bout my ears bleeding lol! My '01 Limited was dam quiet! My '08 Touring I can barely use my Bluetooth headset, using the speaker phone is not an option, sounds like I have rolled the windows down and stuck my head out the window. Looking at the front and rear fenders I was thinking of using the spray on undercoating (unless there is something better and not a budget breaker), I was thinking of spraying the bottom and the fender wells to reduce some of the road noise, and maybe spraying or the stick on sound deadening pads for the doors. Might get brave enough to throw some on the roof, really hate to mess with the headliner. Any suggestions are welcomed thanks guys!!!!

now, i'm assuming your wheel bearings are in good condition and are not howling. when mine started to go i was going crazy yelling to my passengers.

tire selection is one of the biggest factors with road noise and may be a large part of your problem. it could very well be the difference in sound from your old PT vs your new PT.

lots of complaints about noisy factory goodyears if you search:

exactly what kind of tires are you running?

you can look up most tires on tirerack, most of which have a "surveys" tab. there you can find reviews, on of which is roadnoise. in these pics i've attached you can see some tires, such as the yokohama i found, rated 9.3 for low roadnoise. then there's the kuhmo tire rated with a very low score of 4.8

I think I read a thread in which Candyman mentions in addition to adding sound mat,you can also add 'stuffing'(like polyester pillow filling?)in ALL of the dead space in the back panels especially......I'll keep looking to find the exact thread.

Not sure about the tires, I won't buy goodyear again, had 4 tire for a little over a year, all 4 had bulge developed in nearly the same place on 3 of them in a 2 month time, was told I must hit something, would have believed them if it was on the tire face the out side, and not all 3 tires. ususally buy what they have on sale.

Wheel bearing, replaced the right side one, was roaring very loudly all the time.

The tires are pretty new, less than 6 months, replaced tires, brakes, rotors before I figured out it was the wheel bearing, at 51,000 miles it did not cross my mind, plus all the other things I could do myself.

I live in florida, when it rains I feel like I am in a tin shed.

Interior noise control can't hurt but don't rule out the tires because they are new! Was the car always loud or did it just start?

I took a gamble a couple of years ago and put Firestone Fire Hawks on our Daewoo wagon they were fine for about 5000 miles and then it started to sound like a freight train was in the car!

Dumped those went back to Falken ZIEX's and the noise went away, just a thought

Being 45 myself(46 in Aug.) it really makes me think how precious my life really is.....When we get to this age we just start to realize we're not invincible anymore.(Like we were in our teens & 20's!)..."Live long, and prosper."
