Default tune up stuff..

i would like to do a tune up, my first one
so i have seen many treads about the special spark plugs for the turbo version, mine is 06 2.4L light turbo with 67k.
please if someone can write a list of all what i need, and which brands are good for each part (oil, filter, cables...) coz the deal with the mechanic is to bring all the parts, and he will do the job..

ps : went to one of those known places and they ask $350 for a tuneup!! is this a regular price??

by the way am programmer and i would like to build an iPhone/android app dedicated to pt cruiser.. if someone have some ideas..

Thanks in advance

Nowadays there is really nothing to "tune-up" (ie--points, condenser, rotor, cap, carb adjust, etc.) so $350 sounds like an outrageous price...don't know what they plan on doing in order to charge that amount.

About the only thing left to do nowadays is the plugs and perhaps clean out the throttle body and replace the air filter. At the same time you might want to do an oil change and lube (only 2 fittings on my PT...again, not like the old days). Trans fluid and filter change would also be a good idea.

Plug wires! Still that is a stupid price.

gram; there is a sticker in the engine area and there is an owners manual which gives you that info. Check oil fill cap too. Factory spark plug wires worked well for me.

Everybody will have a personal opinion as to which oil and filter and plug is best. Check the oil filler cap or owner manual for proper viscosity and buy whichever brand you prefer that has the API seal on the bottle for gasoline engine service. The owner manual will tell the capacity...my na PT takes 5 qts. IMHO the WIX or NAPA filters are the best. The parts counter guy can tell you the filter part number for your application. Don't forget the air filter while you are at it.

... and back on the subject of "spark plug gap" - my (2004) engine compartment sticker says .050 - but revised spec means that's supposed to be smaller, right? (Also have the Turbo Lite...)

All the PT plugs on RockAuto seem to be spec'd for .050 gap

Rock; on a 2003 sebring non turbo, the factory changed the plug gap to .040. Try TSB # 08-008-04.

Synthetic oil is better and worth the extra cost - Mobil 1 5w30 is what you want.
Check with Advance Auto - they often have a deal on 5 qts of Mobil 1 oil and a Mobil1 filter.
Get Crane Firewire plug wires, they have low resistance and will last much longer than the stock wires.
For plugs, the stock Champions aren't bad, get iridiums if you want longer life.
There was a TSb for smaller plug gap, and gap gets wider with age - I'd gap at 0.040.
