Default 2002 pt cruiser overheating

My pt cruiser overheat, when I wait a stop light or idling. When the temperature reach the high level, I stop the can and shut off the engine. It looks like boiling in the coolant tank. When I park the car for about 9 hours, I open the radiator cap. I can see the thermostat directly. It looks like no circulation through the radiator hose, but I am so confused that if there is no circulation through the radiator hose, why is the coolant boiling? I suspect the thermostat. About several month ago, my engine check light is on, the cold is engine temperature is too low. Therefore, I think thermostat maybe the problem. Is anybody have other suggestion? Thanks!
