Default Cooling Fan

I have a 2009 PT Cruiser and I'm having issues with my air conditioner. When I'm driving, my a/c runs fine. when i stop at a light, my engine shakes and the air gets warmer. I removed one of the cooling fan relays and the a/c worked fine but i go the check engine light. I replaced the relay with a new one and the problem continued. not sure what's going on. Any ideas?

Lightbulb Re: Cooling Fan

Have you checked the a/c drivebelt for proper tension and/or wear?

Default Re: Cooling Fan

The question are the fans working properly? try reenacting the same situation in your drive way and simply mist a garden hose over the unit while stationary and the ac engaged. the water cooling effect will be duplicated to give it more radiant cooling. The issue is do you have one or two fans and are they both working. IF they are how many speeds fans are they and are they running at high enough speeds at idol. If it is pulling the motor down that much it may be caused by producing too much head pressure at idle due to not enough ram air cooling. Back to basics, check for a clean condenser and radiator area, proper fan useage and speed. If the ac works well the rest of the time could be overloading with head pressure due to not enough cooling going on
