Default muffler replacement need advice

Hello I replaced my oem muffler about a year and half by a aftermarket one and is all rotten. Its the time to replace it again. My stock muffler last 8 years could you tell me why those aftermarket muffler rust so fast ? I always wanted to install a oem muffler from mopar but the price is outragous 405$ for a muffler is a steal !! I search on the net and tired to find a direct fit stainless steel muffler for my car but all a can find is a big fart can. I love to drive a quiet car and having law inforcement on my side. What are my options ? Thanks you.

You didn't say what brand the aftermarket was?...But before you spend that much on a stock Mopar muffler, you should look at Flowmaster,Magnaflow,or even the original CherryBomb;Cherrybomb will sound great on a PT,and flows better then many popular name brand mufflers, even Flowmaster!
When your looking for a replacement muffler, see what warranties against rust they offer.

My actual muffler is a Walker quiet flow. This muffler seem to be aluminized steel and with our very salty road it lasted a year and half. I tought about the magnaflow catback system but it look expensive for my purpose and Noisy. I want the same noise level or just a very little Noisy muffler. If magnaflow sell just the muffler alone let me know, maybe I can reduce the noise of the magnaflow by installing a resonator on the line ? What do you thing about it ?

There could be many environmental reasons why your muffler did not last very long. In your area you need to be rinsing the undercarriage often with clean water anyway?

A a stainless steel muffler only means that the outside case is SS the insides generally not and many times the ends or only one end is SS.
Before buying any aftermarket muffler you should consider what the CFM flow rating is for them. Don't be surprised that very few advertise this and getting the information is like pulling teeth from a hungry Lions mouth! The 2.4 needs about 396cfm at maximum flow of exhaust CFM.
NEVER place flowmaster on a PT Cruiser unless you are looking to reduce your engine output.

Walker muffler have a great reputation for OEM replacement mufflers.

If a shop is going to be doing the work I recommend MIDAS or SEARs for the warranty aspect of your decisions?

i would still recommend a walker for a quiet long lasting muffler.

even if you got a magnaflow you can get it aluminized or SS. same with the walker. if you get the SS version it comes with a lifetime warranty. yours may actually have a lifetime warranty depending how you read this picture.

i'm in chicago and we use a lot of salt here, the mufflers I gotten from them never failed. i even had a smashed one on a civic that never fell apart. i "landed a little hard" pretending i was a rally car driver on a canal access road and caved in the bottom about a week after it was installed. the person i sold the car to still has it on there to this day.

Short trips will do it, too.
We had a customer that would go thru lifetime one every 8 months.
Too much moisture, and muffler doesn't even get warm.
