Default Hard to press horn.

I want to know if all pt cruiser horns are hard to press or just mine. I find myself hitting it multiple times because I didn't press hard enough. Compared to my neon you really have to punch the darn thing

Question Re: Hard to press horn.

I can press mine by using firm thumb pressure....So,you must have an internal problem with your horn;I'm not sure if that has something to do with the clockspring,or not?

That doesn't work very well with the windows rolled up!

Try tapping on the bottom of your steering wheel hard enough and your horn should work. This is usually idicative of a ground connections under the dash (heavy green wires) that are not doing the work of grounding the steering wheel. Take your under dash inspection panel out and you may find the errent ground point and you can probably tighten it up a bit. When my horn doesn't work I just bang on the bottom of the steering wheel and beep beep. It's more fun. ptprice

Sounds like this is what your referring to:
Horn and Radio Screen Intermittent?
But,that would normally affect the radio also......

Here's a photo summary of the ground wire issue:

Have to press hard on the horn to activate it (08 PT) on my PT as well...doesn't seem to be an intermittent or bad ground issue...just the nature of the beast???

They are hard to press and they will stick on too. Especially on the 06 and up. The ground wire fix doesn't pertain to the 06 and up as they fixed the issue on the second generation.

I replaced my vinyl steering wheel on my 09 with a leather one with the silver spokes from a limited and I stopped having horn issues. Must be a bad design on the standard wheel.
