Are you sure they've never been replaced before??

I bought the car with 70k,,,,they sure look OE. I used to replace shocks at around 50k but that was when they were 15 bucks. Now I read if they are not leaking they are still good. I have not priced them out but I'm guessing they are around 50 dollars each plus alignment. I don't want to spend the cash if not needed.

Is it really that unlikely that they are original? My shocks and struts are original still and I'm at 115k miles, only thing I've done on the suspension is the control arm bushings (actually just replaced the whole control arm for those, the bushings are a huge pain to replace separately). Those are pretty much a "change them when they wear out" type thing, they don't really have a specific mileage to replace, though yeah most only last 60-70k miles. Luckily I live in a place with mostly new, smooth roads so my car has it pretty easy

EDIT: Granted, my suspension is starting to make a bit of noise when I go over dips and bumps in the road, so perhaps it's time to start looking myself.

They may look OE,but I have to think they may have been replaced, and have about 90K on them....The ones like this are easy to replace,or can save a little by getting the strut cartridges & springs seperate, and use your own coil spring compressor....But,on my 2003 PT (with 96K) I'm going to get these to make it as easy as pie!

Also....The PT Cruiser has got to have the EASIEST rear shocks to change,I have ever seen!

I've used the quick struts before and they are nice. I guess my main question was if they are not leaking or making noise and still ride well do should I look at replaceing them even if they have 90k on them.

I guess if they're not feeling sloppy, and your still happy with them; Why change them?......But,w/90K(at least)on them,I know you would REALLY notice the improvement in the ride & handling,if they were changed......You've probably just gotten used to the way they are.
