Default What does YOUR temp gauge show?

A question to other PT owners: When your car is at operating temperature where is the needle pointing on your temp gauge? Mine is exactly at the halfway point on my 2001 PT, the needle is horizontal. This seems a bit hotter than my other vehicles, but was wondering if this is normal with other PT's.

My heater core smells "hot" too. ...So I flushed the radiator with super flush, installed a new cap and coolant, and replaced the electric fan. The previous owner installed a new Tstat, so I didn't change that. It's not boiling over, but just seems a bit hot to me. ...So I'm curious!

If all was perfect like Motorheads response close to the middle line. Smells, touch and clairvoyance does not work well when thinking things are hot under the hood in the engine compartment? If you can try to use a simple hand held thermal tool and see what you temperatures really are.

The stock gauge has a lot of variance compared to what the real temperatures are.

I recently installed an Ultra Gauge on my '06 Touring Edition, the engine temp has been running right around 193 degrees farenheit and the gauge neele is slightly below the middle mark.

As for smells, both my PT's have a coolant like smell when u turn the temperature control from cool toward hot , for a short period of time. Others have commented about the same thing but no one is actually ever stated the exact reason for that.

A quality code reader can also tell you what the computer thinks the temp is.
