Default Cranking, no fire. won't start!

2004 Limited Edition non-turbo PT Cruiser. Just ocer 96000 miles on it.
Lets start at the beginning. My vehicle used to randomly jerk on me when I hit 2300/2400 RPM's. Made it difficult to drive and nigh impossible to drive on the freeway. After a while I finally get it checked out and the code it spits out is p0340.
I do my research on it and I see that my vehicle is funny with this code, where some folks were saying it may not be the cam sensor like the code says. Well, I end up replacing it and it worked. No more jerking. This was about two months ago.
So I'm driving down the road the same problem hits me. I get frustrated and figure on just going from my destination since I didn't need to go that fast. Then a minute later... my car dies. It's cranking over, but it's not firing.
Eror codes were P0340 (hate that code now), P0700, and P0562.
A guy checks it out and says it's the cam sensor. I replace the sensor. (I should add the first one I bought was OEM, the one I bought after is aftermarket). Installed that to no avail. Then he tells me it's the crankshaft. We put that on, no avail. At this point though, the only error code we're getting from his machine and my "key dance" was p0340 (IT NEVER GOES AWAY!!). The he tells us its the ignition coil. We replace the ignition coil. No avail. And now the key dance isn't giving me any errors.
I hear the fuel pump when I turn the car on. Um... battery is on a full charge at this point.
Does anybody have a theory? Any fingers pointed in the right direction would be awesome.

Sounds like the timing belt. Pull the sensor off and crank it over and see if the cam is turning.

Ditto!....Has the timing belt been replaced???......And even if pulling the CPS,and you see it 'is' turning inside,an old belt could have jumped(or thrown) a tooth, causing this issue.

TD; because of the p0562 code [low voltage], you should also check the wiring and connectors carefully. And replace the cam sensor magnet.

I'm very technologically savvy, but mechanically... that's a different story. I have a guy coming by to check out the car and I actually directed him to this thread when I first posted it. He told me, and I quote, that he's "99% sure it's the timing belt, and you'll probably need to replace your water pump while you're at it"
Hearing it on these forums from someone like you and from the new mechanic puts my mind at ease. Thank you!

I actually took my battery down to AutoZone a couple days ago and I was informed that the connections were absolutely terrible. They cleaned it off and I sprayed some foaming crap on it to clean it off more, and they said the connections were as clean as a new battery. I've not replaced it quite yet since I purchased the vehicle (4 years ago now), and I know I'm overdue. The second I get the car running again I'm going to need to invest more time and money into it to keep it running tip-top.
I'll google the cam sensor magnet now, thank you!

It's called the Target Magnet and sits inside the hole where the Camshaft sensor is located.

Chrysler TSB suggest doing Timing Belt, Tensioner Pulley, Idler Pulley and Water Pump with Gasket;Alot of places sell it as a 'Timing Belt Kit'.
Here is an example: http://www.carpartswarehouse.com/add.../58-80187.html

My friend's PT stopped working while driving out in town. Had it towed back and he swore it was just the fuel pump. The car would try to start, but I agreed that it seemed like it just wasn't getting fuel (I didn't even listen for the fuel pump coming on, but chances are it was perfectly fine). Replaced the fuel pump, but the engine made the exact same sound when trying to start it. I borrowed another friend's code reader (really should have done this first) and it threw P0340. Installed a new cam sensor. Now it is giving me P0340 P0562 and P0700. I'll try starting it without the cam sensor on like you guys recommended to see if the belt has slipped or broken or something. Registered just to get into this thread with y'all, so I'm really interested in figuring this out. I'm open to absolutely any and all suggestions! Car has 100k miles and owner isn't sure when or if the timing belt has been changed.

Cranked it with the Cam Sensor removed and it turned only a few degrees once; just wiggled a little bit. After that, though, it hasn't budged. Does the magnet rotate with the cam, I'm guessing? Battery has full charge. I'm not even sure if it is supposed to spin while trying to start, or if since it isn't spinning that means something is wrong
