Default Problem with fog light switch

A couple of month ago the fog light emblem of the dash would stay lite even though the fog lights weren't on and eventually the switch started smoking so I pull the fog light fuse out. Just last week I bought a new factory fog light kit from one of our members so I switched out the fog light switch and the emblem on the dash stays on until you push in on the button

any suggestions ? My pt cruiser is a 2004 gt

Not sure I understand the problem. I thought the fogs are turned on by pulling out the switch and turned off by pushing in the switch. Is that the "button" you are talking about? The headlights or parking lights must be in the on position before the fogs can turned on or off.

Your right 2step and they the poster is explaining it doesn't make sense. The fog lights WILL stay ON until the end of the stalk is pushed in.

When the fog light switch is push back into the off position the fog lights still stay on. This has happened with my old switch and the new one I bought last week

Sorry, sounds like the Multi-function switch that you got from one of the members has the same problem your did, if the fogs stay on even when turned off. Classic symptom of the internal pin wearing out. Was it supposed to be a NEW switch that you bought?

Post Re: Problem with fog light switch

Either way, your having an issue with the MFS;I'm posting these most frequented threads......But,there is another one which I think more addresses your particular issue, but I just spent about 50mins trying to find it(no luck!);The thread I'm remembering shows how to repair/rebuild the 'clicker' tab portion in the end of the stalk....Maybe another member can find it.
Here are the other 3 threads:

That would be a big coincidence that both the old and the new MFS would have the same failure. It's possible but it does seem to indicate that the problem is somewhere else. Maybe in this case the problem is in the PCM and it needs a power down to reset/reboot it or even a reflash. Other possibilities are a fault in the wire(s) or plug(s).

Are there any more details you can give us, such as, Do you use the fogs all the time? Do you use the tilt wheel a lot? Did this all start after some other work was performed somewhere? What's the general condition of the wiring harness? Is everything else working normal, dash lights/gauges, horn, etc.?

I just replaced the MFS with a new one that was bad, the head lights would not turn on,then I put the old unit back in and they worked. Sent the new one back, received the second one and it is all working now. Theres a lot of things going on in that MFS and we all know where there built !
