Default Yet Another Starter Issue

Wow Pt's are known for starter issues, huh? Well here is another one.

I noticed starter issues late summer. This 2003 with 75k started hard, and lights would dim after turning off the ignition. I took it to the mechanic to check the alternator, battery and starter. All was fine. As time went on, most days it started right up, but lights would always dim.

As it got colder outside, it got harder to start. Then yesterday, it started right up. I ran an errand. Got back into the car and POOF! Nada. Not a sound when trying to start it. Got lights and other electrical things work, but no engine turning over.

Where do I start. My baby has been nicking and dimming me to death. Put in a rebuilt transmission a 3 years ago, brakes 4 times, struts last year, bearing 2 times this year.

I'm real good at giving her basic maintenance ... oil, tire pressure, ect.

Thanks In Advance for all replies!

Based on that statement; The next things to check (in order) would be in the steering column(Ign. switch & actuator + SKIM-'if equipped'),then maybe starter interlock cable & solenoid, then 'long shot'-Neutral Safety Switch.

You say it has been getting harder to start as the weather has gotten colder. This is a sign that the battery is weak. It sounds like it has been awhile since the mechanic checked the battery, etc. so, have the battery load tested...most auto parts stores will do it for free. Also check that the battery terminal connections are clean and tight. Don't condemn the starter before making absolutely certain that the battery and connections are good.
