Default What does this sound like to you?

So, just had a turbo replaced in an 04 Touring model. Runs great, but we have an intermittent problem, I think unrelated to the turbo, but let me know what you all think it could be. It's intermittent, so mechanic can't find issue as it's not acting up for him.

We'll be driving along just fine, and then check engine light comes on... Starts flashing, then, if you take your foot off the gas, car dies. It can be restarted, but if you take foot off the gas, it just dies again.

Computer diagnostics say that it's an air intake sensor. We had it in once for this issue last week, and the mechanic thought that the sensor next to the cat shorted out. Since we replaced the cat when we put in the new turbo, he thought that an exposed wire touching the cat might have been to blame, so he replaced the sensor, and test drove the car several times over the next couple days, and all was fine for him. But when we got it back, the light came on and vehicle died again a couple days after.

I am not a mechanic, but if I guessed, I would think fuel pump or fuel injection issue. Mechanic can't determine issue.. ANy ideas from you guys?

Thanks!

-Dave

I hope your "mechanic" knows his stuff. The O2 sensor (what's on the cat) and the air intake sensor are VERY different things. Obviously one is in the intake but the other is in the exhaust. He seems to be working on the wrong end of the car.

Oh, I'm sure I mis-typed. It was the O2 sensor, if that's what was closest to the exhaust. Sorry for the confusion.

Yep.. The shop said that it was the O2 sensor. That was all the info they gave me so far.

Seems like lack of oxygen for your car. Might wanna get it to some other mechanic.

Might have to go the o2 injection setup, as opposed to the usual Nitrous.

But first, I'd borrow granny's oxygen, and shove the nose tube in the throttle body, and see if there are any improvements.

Just found out, it's the onboard computer. The service manager said that it was sending out 100v to the o2 sensors, and apparently that was what was shroting them out.

They want to replace onboard computer.
