Default Compass Problems

I'm new here and not sure if this issue has been covered. I could not get my compass to calibrate per the instructions in the owners manual Regardless of how many circles I drove in or what directions. I decided to remove the overhead cluster and found the little black box on the end of the ribbon cable (compass enclosure) just laying in there. I snapped it back onto the metal tang above the cluster and Shazam.......After calibrating it is like new. Hope this helps anyone having the same issue.
